With A Little Help From My Friends: Makeup Collabs!

Feeling like your makeup game is in a rut? Plan a makeup play day with your friends - whether in person or online!

When I started my YouTube channel, one of my biggest goals was to get the opportunity to collab with other small channels - I love the community spirit that I see in the indie makeup community! My channel is still small (growing slow but steady!) but I've been fortunate to have the chance to collab with 4 amazing YouTubers!
I wanted to share those videos here. Sometimes we're doing regular makeup looks, sometimes we're challenging ourselves to play with specific products or techniques that may be new to us, and sometimes we are doing something more challenging like a Palette Bingo. But whatever we are doing, we're having fun and reminding ourselves that makeup is supposed to be FUN!
Let's start with my first ever collab on YouTube:
Makeup By Torrence was so kind to be my first ever collab on the platform, and I loved that we got to do a palette bingo with the yummy Danessa Myricks Lightworks Vol 4 palette! Torrence has been taking a break from his channel for a while (because, you know...life happens!) but I really hope that will return soon. I actually met all 3 of my other collaborators through Torrence's channel, so he helped start it all!
The next person I collabed with was my friend Chyna! We decided to play with the P. Louise x Mikayla collab palette and did a style swap: she traded in her more neutral looks for a bright blue stunning eye, and I ditched the technicolor nightmare for something a little more subdued! This was a lot of fun to film, even if all the neutrals left me feeling a bit naked!
And now we get to my two most frequent collaborators: Dion and Grace! Also known as @dionluvsmakeup and @gelbeauty87!
I met Dion through Torrence: he did a collab video with her, and I subscribed from that video. We started chatting a bit more, and I had a crazy idea for a Beauty Tag - the Self Love Makeup Tag. Not only did she agree to do the collab with me - she helped me write some of the questions! There is no makeup application in this video, but it's s till a special one for me, so I wanted to share it!
Dion and I also did a palette bingo collab using the MAC Colors of Pride palette where we helped pick each other's shades! This was a fun one to do - and that MAC palette is a gorgeous one. If you want to really shake up your makeup, a palette bingo is a great way to test your skills and break you out of your comfort zone!
Through Dion's channel, I got to know Grace, and she has joined us on several collabs! If you haven't checked out her two channels, she not only does amazing makeup content, but also fragrance and fashion! Our first 3-way collab was using the Oden's Eye Planet Spirit palette!
Taylor Swift Whomst?! I had already been curious about the Fazit stick-on freckles, but once TSwift started wearing them to Chiefs games and making them go viral, I knew I had to try them. And I sent a bunch to both Dion and Grace, and made them try them too! We had...mixed results, but we all had a good time!
We also all got suckered by the latest Mothership from Pat McGrath Labs - so since we paid for the damn thing, we decided to do a collab and try it out! I love that there are a couple of greens in this one, and the limited edition packaging is cute, but it was definitely underwhelming. Luckily the three of us are experts at taking lemons and makeup makeup lemonade!
I've also been adding more livestreams to my YouTube channel - I used to do a lot on Facebook Live, but that platform is clearly not interested in supporting livestreaming anymore. Here is a recent dual-live that I hosted on my channel with Dion. We've done several of these makeup play days on her channel, and I was excited to bring one onto mine to celebrate the release of Hung Vanngo Beauty.
If you follow any of these videos back to YouTube, you will find my collab partners' videos linked in the description box for all of these, so make sure that you visit their channels as well!
As much as I want to help new performers build their skills and improve their techniques, I also want to emphasize that makeup should be fun! And nothing is more fun than sitting down with other makeup-loving friends to play, experiment, challenge yourself, and get some use out of all of those products that have a way of accumulating!
XOXO -
