Janessa Around The Interwebs

I thought I would curate a few of the random places that I've popped up, whether it's articles in regional publications or podcast appearances.

First, let's start with the High Plains Reader. This originally started in Grand Forks as an indie arts publication, and at some point moved down to Fargo. I have contributed a few pieces of writing to them over the years, and even appeared on the cover - the year when the anti-drag hate group popped up and I got a bunch of death threats. Fun! Here are links to some of the various features available online that I have either contributed or been featured in:
Acting Out - This was the cover article by my friend Sabrina the year our Bismarck Pride events were targeted by some religious nutjob group.
Be About Love - Another of Sabrina's articles from that year, this was before the Pride events happened and predates the cover story by about a month. Both articles are from 2022.
Pride: The Once & Future Riot - This was an editorial I contributed in 2023, the year after the big showdown with Protect North Dakota Kids (who did nothing of the sort and were just a religious hate group).
Gazongas for Me, But Not For Thee - This was a fun little piece about "Big Titty Bryon Noem" and the hypocrisy of his politics next to his personal fetish. From April 2026.
I also have a post coming in the June edition, talking about the situation with Dakota OutRight featured in my last THOTs post. As soon as it is available on the HPR website, I'll update it here.

Now let's talk about podcasts! I've done a couple of podcasts myself: Janessa After Dark was my pop culture interview and commentary show that ran for two series, and Miss Jaye: The Renovation was my as yet unfinished limited series about mental health and self help books. I keep threatening to finish it, but we'll see what happens! Both of my podcasts are available on my YouTube channel.
But I've also been a guest on a few podcasts! Here are some places to check out my commentary and maybe discover some amazing new shows!
Let's start with The Upside Down Podcast, hosted by sisters Ash and Tori. Strangely enough, these ladies are the reason why I joined Instagram! I had been avoiding it, but I went to a Days of the Dead convention in Atlanta and got my photo with the 4 boys from the show. Apparently, Ash and Tori were in line with me! They posted a picture later asking for someone to tag me; my friend saw it and was like, "You have to get on Instagram!" And now I'm the IG monster that I am today...you're welcome! I got to talking with them, and ended up submitting a couple of things for their episodes!
Steve Wears His Sunglasses At Night - Ash and Tori asked me if I would do a dramatic reading of Corey Hart's Sunglasses at Night for their show! I'm all the way at the end - it's cheesy and fun!
We Talked To Ingrid Michaelson - For this, I just submitted a question for their interview with Ingrid Michaelson. Just a weird little moment, but this was a great interview! And it sounds like she's open to being besties, so...

I was also featured on a podcast about Christmas! The Christmas Past podcast features memories from people about their holiday traditions and experiences and I submitted a story about wanting a Western Barbie so badly, and what was waiting for me under the tree instead!
I'm a huge horror fan, so obviously I jumped at the chanced to be featured on Who's There? A Podcast for Horror Fans. We talked about Sleepaway Camp, seeing Get Out in a theater full of white people, and I laid out my case for why Black Christmas (2019) is the best version!
This one is a little bit more serious, and it seems like the series has been removed from Podbean. I was interviewed by Silvia from The Empowerment Project on the issue of stealthing. I'm going to try to track down the audio of the podcast, but for now I will link to her website as well as to the article here on The World of Champagne that I wrote about the situation.

Now for YouTube appearances! I'm not going to include the makeup collabs on my channel or other channels, as those are easy enough to find through the channel itself. But occasionally I have been a guest on other shows that I wanted to make sure that I include here!
Let's start with my coloring livestreams with Retro Toy Princess!
I always love having a coloring party with Allison, and it's extra special when cutie patootie Andrew from Gayties Toys stops by!
Next, here are a couple of episodes of the 757 Hustle Show that I've appeared on! George is a lot of fun as a host, and I always love appearing on his show!
Here is a clip from the show above, where we played a game about vintage toys!
And I was on a panel to discuss the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie!
I think that's everything, but if I remember any other podcasts or guest articles, I will be sure to add them, as well as any new features that may come up! And if you enjoy collabs and dual-livestreams, be sure to keep an eye on my YouTube channel as I'm often collabing with friends there, especially my good Judy Dion Lorah!
