Lights! Camera! Golden Girl!

Updated: May 26

Your girl isn't the only YouTuber making fantastic content about Golden Girl and the Guardians of the gemstones!

First of all, the gold standard of toy collection videos is absolutely Toy Room of Insanity! This video was such an inspiration to me, and gave me some great starting info as I was researching my first video. You should absolutely search their videos for pretty much any vintage toy lines that you want more information on - he has a phenomenal collection!

Next up, one of my favorite newer channels is Gayties Toys, and his "MIA 80s Ladies" series! Andrew a video on the never released Wave 2 of Golden Girl that never even made it to prototype stage (except for a repaint of Rubee called Dymondia that was only released in Europe!). I adore his channel, and I'm hoping that I'll get to do some coloring with him on another channel that I'll be mentioning a little later.

Golden Girl collectors know that a lot of the plastic used to make this line had it's faults, and one of the most common bits of damage that I see are legs where the ball joint has broken off. Have no fear! Toy Polloi has a fantastic video showing how to repair this damage when you find it! A fantastic resource.

Now, can we talk about Allison Troy - Retro Toy Princess? She's amazing! She does videos of coloring pages from vintage coloring books, and she has all of your favorites: She-Ra, Wonder Woman, Barbie, and yes, Golden Girl! There are dozens of videos featuring Golden Girl, and so much great content for you to look through!

She also does coloring lives, where she invites on other members of the "ToyTube" community, and now I feel like I'm actually a part of that community - because I've been on her show! She is also friends with Andrew from Gayties Toys, and someday we are going to do a trio live! Who doesn't love a good threeway?!

This brief video from We Had That gives a great overview of the Golden Girl line, its relationship to She-Ra, and some of the merch that was produced. This video is a great "elevator pitch" to show a friend to get them interested in the live before forcing them to watch my much longer, much chattier videos!

In my merch video, I showed off the board game and mentioned a channel where they did a playthrough! That channel is Board Game Night, and I've included their video here in case you want to check it out. The gamer itself looks a little repetitive (unless you just can't get enough of modified rock, paper, scissors!), but the gameplay is simple and easy to pick up, perfect for younger kids who might have wanted a new way to play as their favorite action figure characters!

A couple of videos that I just found are from a smaller channel (we always show love to our fellow "under 1000" creators!) that show some dolls that they purchased secondhand and then did some restoration work to. Take Me Home Tonight Toys has two videos that I'd like to share with you. Here is the video for the hero side:

And of course we had to have a part two featuring the villains!

These are some of the best videos out there. There are more, of course, but I avoided anything that referred to Golden Girl as a "bootleg" series (RUDE!) and general unboxings. This is a great starting place to get excited about your new or beloved collection!

And even though it's already posted on this tab, I'm including my unboxing of the Palace of Gems here - not to toot my own horn, but I haven't been able to find an unboxing of this playset that is as complete, has as much attention to detail, and shows as much close-up footage as mine! I really wanted this to be a full experience, since I know how rare and hard to find this playset is!

There is DEFINITELY going to be more Golden Girl content on my channel this year - we have to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this toy line in style! Be on the lookout for a lore video coming later this year, as well as an update to my merch collection!
