Great Black Makeup Creators For You To Follow!

Updated: Mar 2

As Black History Month comes to a close, I wanted to share some amazing black creators in the beauty space that I think you should check out. I wanted to share them at the end of the month, because I think it's important to support and uplift creators from marginalized communities all year long, not just when the appropriate month is happening.

When it comes to my YouTube feed, I like to see a diversity of opinions, products, and styles of makeup so that I can keep up with what's happening in the makeup space as well as see a bunch of different looks and products, even if I'm not interested in buying all of them. I prefer left-leaning creators who have some social commentary or awareness in their content, but it's not necessary.

In terms of watching makeup content to see how products perform, I really look at two groups of creators. First, I watch several creators who are roughly the same skintone I am, at least in terms of depth if not also undertone. That way I can gauge roughly how products will look on my skintone. Second, I watch creators with deeper skintones than mine. Because my drag makeup looks are more intense than the "average, everyday makeup wearer," I find it helpful to see how products perform on deeper skintones. I need a lot of pigment and good performance to achieve the looks that I do; some products might look ok creating a streetwear look on someone of my complexion, but then get washed out, patchy, or don't perform as well on deeper complexions. I find that watching creators with deeper skintones helps me determine if a product is going to work for an industrial creation like myself!

Also, it opens me up to new perspectivse and helps me see how makeup fits in for other marginalized people. For that, I also like watching creators from other communities as well, especially other queer and trans creators. Makeup YouTube isn't just about the makeup, at least not for me. It's also about finding community and expanding my perspective.

DISCLAIMER: I don't know how all of these creators describe or label their racial or ethnic identities. Some of them I discovered through the communities of other black creators, some the algorithm fed to me. There is also a whole debate that I run into in the wilds of the internet about whether or not mixed race people can call themselves black. My pasty ass is not the one to be litigating that question, and to me if a creator says that they are a black creator, that's good enough for me. If I've gotten anything wrong in this list in terms of how people self-identify, or if any of these creators see this and would prefer to be removed from this list, please reach out to me via Instagram @JanessaJayeOfficial and I will be happy to remove you.

Alright, let's get to the creators!

Miss Dion - @DionLuvsMakeup

Of course, I had to shout out my friend Dion! We have done a few collabs (and hopefully many more on the way!) and I really enjoy her channel, her frank perspective on the products she tries, and the way that she really tries to build value for her community of channel members while also making all viewers feel included.

She has sensitivities, and she's done some really informative videos about pressed pigments, and because of her content I try to be aware of mentioning pressed pigments when I can (it's easy for me to forget since I don't have the same sensitivities, but I need to remember that members of the audience might!), and she's also branching out into some other kinds of content around self-care and mental health that I find really refreshing.

Grace aka Gel Beauty87 - @gelbeauty87

Do you wish that your favorite creator would post more often? Then you should check out Grace at Gel Beauty87 - I swear, I think she has more hours in the day than the rest of us, because she pumps out the content - and it's all great! She does a lot of different themes and series, but one of my favorites is when she helps you dupe the vibes of a new palette. Her choices are really thoughtful and interesting. They aren't necessarily perfect dupes, but rather she encourages you to think about what you're using a palette for - what kind of vibe do you want to create - and how can you create that with things already in your collection. She'll put together things that at first I wouldn't think are similar at all, and then as she talks through them I'm like, "That's totally the same vibe!" Those are my favorite videos on her channel.

I also really like her fragrance videos. I don't watch a lot of fragrance content (not until they figure out "Smell-O-Vision" for the internet! lol) but I love the way she explains the fragrances and gives comparisons. I definitely feel like I get worthwhile information from her fragrance content! We've also done a couple of collabs that were a lot of fun, so check both of our channels for those!

Early August - @EarlyAugust

This channel is one that I watch occasionally for the makeup content, but I also enjoy her other lifestyle content. She does a lot of purse videos, showing off what she has in her bag or hauling purses and other lifestyle goods. I'm not a handbag collector, but I love watching people haul handbags and talk about what they chose and why, so if you like your makeup content mixed with that kind of lifestyle, this is a good option for you. If you stick with just makeup, she does do some fun makeup content as well, and you can check through her playlists so you don't have to hunt through the lifestyle content.

Candace Victoria - @CandaceVictoriaMakeup

Candace Victoria is a channel that I found a long time ago when she did a series showing how she set up and customized her makeup room. I love organizing videos! My makeup collection is always a bit of a disaster and overtakes all of my extra space, so watching people create their perfect organization is so inspiring (even if I never achieve that same level!).

She does some other lifestyle content in addition to makeup, and I appreciate that she has talked about her education in the past and shared some of her challenges and celebrations - I think we need more people not just talking about products but sharing bits of their lives, and I think that more promotion of education, especially in the beauty space, is an incredible thing!

Tatianna Anesa - @TatiannaAnesa

Tatianna has unfortunately disabled sharing on her videos so I can't post one here (annoying, but I get it), but I do like her channel enough that I still want to include it even if I can't link my favorite new video! I'm not into Vlogs, so I haven't watched any of those on her channel, but I love her makeup content. She has a nice balance of some hauls with some shop my stash, so it's not just about the new-new, and you get to see a real variety of products in use.

She has a soothing voice as she's getting ready, so sometimes I will put on her videos almost like a podcast while I'm doing other things on the computer and then flip over to check out the progress from time to time. Definitely check her out for some great looks!

IceLovesBeauty - @icelovesbeauty2351

Another channel with disabled sharing - you're killing me Smalls! I love shouting out smaller channels - I'm also a micro-creator, so anything we can do to support each other is great. I like Ice's channel for her GRWM content, and she also does unique hauls including grocery hauls! I think she does a great job of giving short snippets of her life along with her makeup content, and I have found some new products that I'm eying because of her channel!

Chyna - @beautyliousdiva

Another smaller channel that I love is my friend Chyna! We've done a collab where we swapped our styles - she loves more neutral looks and I've a technicolor monster! - and it was so much fun! She took a little break for a while, but she's slowly started dipping her feet back in so definitely show her channel some love so that she keeps working at it!

She and I have bonded over our love of P. Louise. I know that there is some sketchy history there, but we both really love the products. I had barely tried them when we first got started, and she has quite the collection! As she's shared some of her faves with me, my collection has grown and I hope we get a chance to collab again soon!

Jackie & The Other Side of Beauty - @jackietheothersideofbeauty1790

Another element of diversity in the beauty space that I don't think get emphasized enough is age! I am nearing 50, and I love hearing people of any gender in their 40s, 50s, and beyond share their products, their processes, and their perspectives! This is another smaller channel with a lot of great content that really deserves more love.

She does GRWMs, hauls, and shop my stash. She also has vlogs for people who enjoy that sort of more personal content. This Valentine look that she created using Klarity Cosmetics was too good not to share!

Leli Living Life - @ldechone

I enjoy Leli because she has an upbeat, quirky personality, and she does some wild, colorful looks! I love to see what she comes up with and how she puts things together - definitely inspiring! She does full makeup applications, and her products run the gamut from high end to Dollar Tree, so you can get a taste of a bunch of different styles and applications.

She also does vlog content, and some of it includes baking! I don't watch a lot of vlogs (just not my cup of tea) but I have definitely peeked at some of her kitchen creations. Yum!

Sunsarae of Enamored Beauty- @enamoredbeauty

Sunsarae is one of many creators I've found through the live chats that Dion hosts. She has created such a fun community of people that show up for the chats, and many of them are fantastic creators in their own right. Sunsarae does a lot of vertical content and shorts that she also shares on IG, so if you prefer beauty content over on that platform, Sunsarae has you covered! She uses and talks about a lot of high end products, and mixes in some other formats from time to time. She also is pretty active on her community tab, sharing sales and releases from brands that she uses, so if you like that information it's a great resource!

I Am Jamila - @iamjamila

Jamila does a lot of great reviews, as well as talking about new releases in a "will I buy it" sort of format. I like listening to her commentary on new products, and I enjoy the looks she creates. She often toes the line between more understated looks and more colorful looks. She will often use bright colors in a way that feels more approachable, and does interesting combinations of color.

She mixes in other video concepts to keep things fresh and interesting, but if you like GRWMs mixed with more traditional product reviews, then definitely check out her channel.

JordeneEliseBeauty - @JordeneEliseBeauty

Jordene is someone that was recommended to me on my landing page. I often hear people say that they aren't getting black creators recommended to them, but I haven't experienced that. I get creators of all kinds recommended to me. I think what helps is that I've taught the algorithm that I love micro-creators, so I regularly get recommended new channels that are under 10,000 subscribers, and I have found a ton of new creators that way.

I love that Jordene shows a lot of luxury beauty on her channel - I've mostly given up on luxury brands for what I need for my #HookerClown looks, but I still love to see the products in action! She also does a lot of wear tests of foundations, which I don't see as much of anymore and can be really helpful if you're looking for a new foundation to try!

Ameerah Muhammad - @AmeerahMuhammad

Ameerah has talked about wanting to consume less and feeling less inspired by makeup and consumption lately - I definitely feel that! I enjoy her makeup content, and I love that she is a self-described comic book movie fan! I love when people aren't afraid to share different sides of themselves, and if she starts shifting a little bit away from makeup, I would be interested to hear some of her thoughts on her geeky interests!

Alicia Archer - @aliciaarcher

I found Alicia's channel when she was still going by Kinky Sweat (from her natural curls and love of fitness!), and I really appreciated the way that she talked about fitness and movement - it never felt like she was trying to keep anybody out because of their body shape or size. She loves some Pat McGrath and Natasha Denona, and I have sort of fallen a way from her channel more recently as I'm not as interested in those brands, but I still love catching up with some of her content when she tries new brands or talks about a haul.

I also occasionally check out some of her fitness content from time to time to get inspiration for my own journey. I don't like a lot of fitness content in general, but as I mentioned she makes it feel much more accessible.

B Rich Beauty - @brichbeauty

I don't watch a lot of men in makeup channels. Which might sound weird coming from me, but there was a time where some of the early men in makeup channels were really demeaning and derogatory in separating themselves out from drag performers, and I'm a Capricorn who can hold a grudge basically forever. Having said that, Brandon from B Rich Beauty makes me think that I need to rethink my old grudges! His content is so upbeat and positive, and I really love the way that he talks about and presents products!

He does some chatty "tea" videos that I find myself watching from time to time. I dislike drama channels, but his videos feel like getting together with a friend and talking about the latest issue of People or your favorite tabloid (do they still have those?!). It's a way to hear celebrity news and gossip in a way that doesn't have the toxicity of drama channels. I love it!

SwaggyBBeauty - @SwaggyBBeauty

SwaggyBBeauty is someone I found through a collab that she did with Dion, and one thing that I appreciate from her channel is that she talks about budgeting and finances along with makeup. As someone who is looking to stop spending so much on makeup, I love when people talk about the financial component of makeup and consumerism.

She hasn't posted anything yet in 2025, so I'm hoping she's just taking a little break and will be back!

Loc Maiden - @LocMaiden

Yet another fabulous creator that I've found through Dion's live chats! I've been posting a lot of the newest videos from the creators that I've been featuring, but I wanted to include this video because in addition to the typical GRWM and makeup content (as well as some hair content for people who have micro-locs), she does some of these more avant garde looks inspired by different photos or themes. I love the way she creates these looks, and they are always my favorite to see pop up on her channel.

Viva Your Pretty - @VivaYourPretty

I love watching content from Viva Your Pretty because not only did she recently turn 60 (and looks amazing!), but she's also a part of goth culture, so she creates some really interesting looks that are different from what you see on a lot of other channels. She does hauls and GRWMs, and a small number of collabs with another creator and a small indie brand. Definitely a fun addition to my video rotation.

Dr. Ash & Her Makeup - @DrAshMakeup

Dr, Ash is another channel that I enjoy for her product reviews and her discussions of makeup. She did a video not that long ago about shopping for makeup while staying financially on track, and I'm definitely here for that kind of content. I also appreciate that she does makeup "playtime" - I think a lot of people forget that makeup is supposed to be fun!

Doc MoJo - @DocMoJo70

Durliza at Doc MoJo is another smaller channel that does some great looks/GRWMs as well as shop my stash videos. I see that she also does a fair number of lives; I haven't had a chance to go to one live yet, but I want to check it out. So many of the creators I've been keeping up with lately are people I found through Dion's chats, and I love that live itneraction, so I think it would be fun to check out one of her lives and see how the community is!

From The Archives...

These YouTubers have taken a little break, but they have a lot of great content on their channels to check out while we wait to see if they return to YouTube - and I really hope they do!

Torrence - @MakeupByTorrence

I'm really hoping that Makeup By Torrence comes back to YouTube. Not only are they an amazing creator with gorgeous, polished looks, but they were the first creator that I ever had the chance to collab with! In fact, it was his collab with Dion that introduced me to her channel! We chat a bit on IG and send reels back and forth, but it's not the same as the amazing community in his premiere chats!

Tanya's Beauty Box - @tanyasbeautybox

Tanys is aregular in Dion's live chats, and that's how I found her channel. She's been on a bit of a break, but the people in the chat are always encouraging her to come back, so let's hope she does! She does some GRWMs using some of her favorite brands, and I love to hear her talk about her products and what she is using. If you stop by Dion's chat sometime, encourage her to join us again!

A Couple of Non-Makeup Options!

A lot of the creators listed above do other things in addition to beauty, like vlogs, hair care and styling, lifestyle, etc., but I wanted to share a couple of creators that I like that are doing other content.

Audra - @AudraReinsOfficial & @AudraReins

and the secondary channel...

Audra is someone that I've been watching for a long time, starting back when they did a lot of makeup content. I originally found them through Emily Hanhan, and enjoyed watching them grow their channel and create fabulous makeup looks. I don't resonate with their newer content as much, but from time to time I will catch one of their pop culture commentary videos if it's something that really strikes my interest. They do a lot of the videos as livestreams initially, so definitely check out their channel and the membership if you want to be a part of the conversation when it happens!

Neida Teresa - @NeidaTeresa

Neida has a great book review channel. A lot of what she reads isn't in my wheelhouse (I'm not really into "romantasy" or whatever they are calling it now lol), but I just love to hear her rants about the books that she reads, the plot holes, and all of her reactions. She rants about things without going over the top, and I just really enjoy her perspectives. It gives me a little taste of the books without having to read them myself!

So that is my list, and it is certainly not exhaustive but hopefully you will find some new creators to watch on this list that you can vibe with!

XOXO-

Miss Jaye
