Head on over to my YouTube channel to watch my Thunderdome ranking of my Bella Beaute Bar collection of eye and face palettes! Now that I've ranked them how they arrived, I'm customizing them to create my ideal collection!
I hope you're enjoying these companion posts that go along with some of my YouTube videos. I love doing Makeup Thunderdomes and ranking palettes, but it's even better when those palettes are magnetic and I can then customize them to my heart's content!
We already talked about Menagerie Cosmetics, but now we're looking at Bella Beaute Bar! If you watched the ranking, you know that I had three palettes that weren't customizable (or even if you can move them, they have unique pan shapes/sizes, so I could only swap them around in their own palette) and one collab palette that I decided to leave alone because it's perfect as is!
The Ultra Violet palette by Deandra Nicoleee x Bella Beaute Bar really is a masterclass on how to do a monochromatic palette well! It gives so many variations on purple: light to deep, red-based to blue-based and true neutral purples. I would love to see her create more monochromatic palettes to see what she would do with other colors!
Can I also just say that I ADORE the Basic Witch palette, and I would have loved to have these shades available as I was customizing my color collections! But I think this is one I can really see myself using as is and getting lots of variety, so I'm not mad about it.
So with the 5 palettes that I was able to customize, here are the shades I was working with. I didn't realize until they were all laid out that I don't have any blue shades from the brand! I have one shimmer that is a white base with a glittery blue reflect, but no just plain blue shades! I'm sure they are out there, but so far I haven't picked out any of the palettes with them in it. Strange!
Anyway, let's get customizing!
Molten Chromes
I love the Waffle Cone design of this palette, but I agree with Angelica Nyqvist that I think these shimmers are better off being combined with the bright, ice creamy shades in the Melted Mattes palette! I decided to turn this into a true Waffle Cone palette!
Don't get me wrong - all of these shimmers are absolutely gorgeous! But I knew that there were going to be some spare neutrals that I would need to ditch somewhere, so I decided to put them here! When I decide to use neutrals for a whole look, I like to have a bit of variety, but if I'm just buffing out a look I don't need a lot. I thought this little collection of neutrals played off the cone aspect, and it gave me a small palette that I could use if I needed something more toned down, like a character in a stage play.
Melted Mattes
We've got the cone, so bring on the ice cream, bitch! And I like mine with SPRINKLES! I loved the neons in this palette, so I wanted to bring in anything else that seemed to have that sort of electric intensity as well as some gorgeous shimmers!
Obviously we popped out all of the neutrals (I had a plan for them!) and kept all of the bright pink, orange, and neon shades and added in a bunch of gorgeous shimmers and even got some stunning greens and a couple of purples. This screams 31 flavors and then some! I love the way this turned out, and it's perfect for my colorful style!
Recently Deinfluenced
I LOVE this concept, but for me, when I think of influencers, I think of lots of neutrals (I told you I had a plan for those!) and I think about how the gotttdamn ABH Modern Renaissance had a chokehold on Beauty YouTube for waaaaay too long!
I love my customized version of this palette! This to me looks like a new take on Modern Renaissance, and it reminds me of the olden days of YouTube (like 2015?!) just getting into Beauty YouTube and listening uncritically to people like Jaclyn Hill and not noticing that they were doing different colors, techniques, and styles than I did - and somehow thinking that I was the problem?! This color story feels empowering, because I can play in those shades if I want to, but I'm doing it because I want to, and not because some influencer told me that I should. Deinfluenced, indeed!
Dead Roses
I said in the Thunderdome video that this is my favorite packaging and concept - I am definitely Team Anti-Valentines! And I didn't have the palette when it first happened, I seem to remember the brand inviting people to submit their perfect Dead Roses palette color story! This palette was what inspired me to do this Thunderdome and customization post, because while I loved the pink and purple design, and I'm on board with the more muted tones to represent the dried flowers, I wanted the deep dusty greens of the leaves and stems too!
I decided to keep a lot of the deep, ducky purples shades and add in a few greens, some of the less popping pinks, and at the last minute, I ended up adding that bright red matte back in. I don't know that it reminds me of dead flowers so much, but I love it with these shades, and this is still makeup after all! That shifty shimmer in the corner with the greens looks really blue in this photo, but it has some gorgeous green tones too, depending on the angle, so I'm excited to see how it plays with all of the others shades. All in all, I'm loving this more subdued take on the dried flowers motif.
Secret Garden
SPOILER: I said in the ranking that this was my favorite palette of the bunch, but now it's not. I still like it, but since I got to really amp up the other palettes to exactly what I wanted (and becuase this is the biggest palette at 25 shades), this palette kind of became a mixture of what I wanted and a holding place for the leftover shades from what I wasn't using elsewhere!
I usually group things close together by color, but I decided to do this one a little different: I did a diagonal line of greens to start and then started building out each half with more greens, purples and a bit of shifty beige on the bottom, and the pinky, rosy tones on the top half. It still reminds me of a colorful flower garden, but there are a few shades that I know are just plunked there because I was running out of options and that's where they had to go. That's the thing about customizing - you start with what you got, and you get to play and swap and change, but you've still got what you got. You don't necessarily have exactly what you need to do everything PERFECT in every palette. And that's ok! I can still think of great looks to do with this palette, and the ones that I wanted to make sure were my perfect palette got first dibs!
That's the new collection! Let me know what you think in the comments, and if you haven't already be sure to check out my ranking video on my YouTube channel - there are a few other palettes that didn't get shown here that are in that list as well!
And if you enjoy these, there is going to be one coming up for another brand - it's an indie brand that is known for really stunning shimmer shades, that likes to include some fun geeky references in their palette and shades names, and that has magnetic packaging for pretty much their entire collection, including face palettes! Think you know who it is? Leave your guesses in the comments!
