If you're coming over from watching my Makeup Thunderdome with Adept Cosmetics over on YouTube, now you can see how I rearranged and customized my palettes!

Ok, so let's start with the palettes that I have to work with; for this post, I'm not including the face palettes, as I've already rearranged them to my liking and I covered all of that in the video. So, I have 10 eyeshadow palettes that I looked at for possible customization.
The 1- palettes are: Minka, Ninhydrin, Heather Austin, Flying Fiddles, Element 115, House of El, Cyborg Choir, Inspired, Amy Loves, and Legend of Ardra.
Amy Loves

The easiest to start: I like how the Amy Loves palette looks, and I decided not to make any changes to this one. I love the soft pastels, and while I will probably find myself reaching for other, brighter mattes to complete a look with this, I wanted to preserve this color story. I almost wish I had done the same with the Heather Austin, but it was already moved around so no use crying over that!
Inspired - OG vs New
The Inspired palette doesn't look too much different, and that's because I kept those amazing greens, and just added to them. I wanted some shifts that might be a little surprising (check the way that green shade in the middle of the top row reflects vivid purple in the mirror!), but I wanted it to be my Adept Cosmetics love letter to greens, and this came out just about perfect.
Cyborg Choir - OG vs New
I said in my video that I loved how much those yellow shades surprised me in this palette, and I stand by that! But I had my eye on those yellows for another special place, so I decided to just really lean into that pastel ombre of the packaging, and amp up the pink/purple/blue of this color story!
Legend of Ardra - OG vs New
I wanted to play into the peachy tone of the holographic cover as well as the wine purple of the inside by giving this a warmer, slightly more neutral mix of shades, a couple of surprise shifts, and sending those marbled shades away to another palette. I adore that bright pop of peach, and I love that with so many of the shades in here!
House of El - OGish vs New
What I had created initially for House of El was ok, but with more shades to play with, I wanted this to be a palette that represented those primary tones that define the Superman aesthetic for me, but in a way that I think it still pretty wearable. As much as I love that Adept keeps their palettes shimmer heavy, not having enough mattes definitely impacted my redesigns, and I really wish I had a true red matte as an option to round this out instead of that red-orange. But I still love this, and it feels very Superman to me!
Minka - OGish vs New
Nothing too wild for my revamp of the Minka - I just made the neutral mattes more neutral and reduced the shimmers to just the more golden brown kind of shades to create my perfect-for-me neutral palette! I don't often do brown and gold looks, but when i do this is going to be a go to because those metallic shimmers are absolutely unparalleled!
Heather Austin - OGish vs New
As we get further down the list, you'll see that some of the palettes become places to ditch the "extra" shades. If I'm being honest, I liked the OG version of Heather Austin that I had, but I ended up needing those greens for the Inspired palette, and some of the others just fit in better. This is a fun oddball collection of shades, but it's definitely a mix that isn't as coherent, and it's less of a curation than a "making do" with what I had left after customizing other palettes I liked better.
Flying Fiddles - OG vs New
"Like, and such as..." This Flying Fiddles revamp is a perfect example! I love this almost monochromatic purple palette, and it's perfection! But it ate up a lot of great shades from other palettes. I love that this has a totally different vibe than the earthy original, and the simple lace packaging makes that possible!
Element 115 - OG vs New
I did really love the original palette, but I'm glad that I got to have a second, earthier green palette that brought in a couple more neutrals and some blue tones. This was a fun one, and really surprised me at the end. I didn't think I would like this one as much as I do!
Ninhydrin - OG vs New
And sadly, the Ninhydrin. She started so high: this lovely collection of "special" shades (watch the video for more on THAT!) that I bought just to remember that moment in makeup history - and to get those gorgeous shimmers! Now, it's the palette at the end of the line, where I added all of the shadows that I don't know how to work in elsewhere. I think the marbled and striped shades are absolutely gorgeous to look at, but I don't feel super confident with them and banished there here. And then, no surprise, I filled it out with the more midtone neutrals and a couple of stunning shimmers in basic colors. Gold? For a metallic shimmer? Groundbreaking.
This experiment was fun, but unlike the others, I'm a little bit unsettled with my final selections. I feel like these shadows are going to keep moving around. If I buy more palettes from the brand, i could see that kicking off redesign 2.0! And that's what I love about makeup: it's all temporary!
You can wash the powder off your face if you don't like how it looks, and if you don't like a newly arranged color story you can always move it around and make something new. I love that more brands are magnetizing the palettes; whether you choose to do so or not (NOTHING is touching my new Blend Bunny palettes!), it's nice to have the option!
Not sure when it will be up, but wanted to let WoC readers know before anyone else - the next Makeup Thunderdome is going to be a relatively new indie darling that has climbed up so many favorites lists the last two years: Cosmic Beauty!
